Building Awareness for HIV/AIDS: A Focused Initiative for WBSAPCS.
The Idea
The West Bengal State AIDS Prevention and Control Society (WBSAPCS) collaborated with Matrix Media Solutions to combat the lack of awareness and misconceptions about HIV/AIDS. The digital presence was established to dispel misconceptions and promote community outreach. The goal was to create a platform for accurate information, meaningful discussions, and preventive measures.
Our strategies aimed to connect rural and urban audiences, enhancing awareness and promoting proactive measures against HIV/AIDS. The strategy focused on visibility, engagement, and actionable results to strengthen WBSAPCS’s position in public health.
Challenge
- No Digital Presence: WBSAPCS had no prior experience managing social media or digital platforms. Establishing an identity that could resonate with their varied target audience was a primary challenge.
- Awareness and Stigma: Misinformation about HIV/AIDS and the stigma associated with the disease posed significant barriers. Educating communities while addressing these sensitive issues requires careful as well as empathy- utilizing facts and making sure they reach our audience.
- Offline-Online Integration: Ensuring that offline campaigns such as marathon campaigns, workshops, and health camps are aligned with online initiatives such as Educational videos and posts.
- Engaging Rural and Urban Populations: Campaigns like these have to cater to a diverse demography: Both the urban audiences with greater digital access as well as the rural communities with limited technological exposure. This was one of the major challenges we had to face.
- Measuring Outcome: Demonstrating tangible results from both online and offline campaigns was essential for WBSAPCS to evaluate the effectiveness of its initiatives and build on successes
Solution
Phase 1: Establishing the Digital Identity
- Social Media Platforms: We successfully created and optimized official pages on both Instagram and Facebook to enhance our online presence. To further amplify our reach, we collaborated with influencers, health experts, and local celebrities.
- Content Framework: We are developing a series of educational posts addressing HIV/AIDS prevention, symptoms, treatment options, and myth-busting, while also focusing on relatable and motivational storytelling, featuring individuals living positively with HIV.
Phase 2: Awareness Campaign Development
- Online Campaigns: Executing targeted ad campaigns aimed towards the youth and rural communities, who are often less informed about AIDS and HIV. We achieved great success in reaching the rural communities with limited internet access.
- Offline Campaigns: We captured live event moments and transformed them into compelling content for digital platforms. Additionally, we are also promoting HIV testing drives by highlighting specific dates, venues, and the critical benefits of early detection.
Phase 3: Driving Community Engagement
- Regional Content: We are focusing on region-specific content in multiple languages to ensure inclusivity and better reach in our online campaigns, while also running targeted ads focusing on educational content and key messages to improve reach and engagement.
- Real-Time Updates: Sharing live, real-time updates from offline events to build a connection between digital audiences and ground-level activities. This ensures a real-time synchronization between the online updates and offline events.
Phase 4: Monitoring and Optimization
- Analytics and Insights: Using analytics tools to measure reach, engagement, and conversion rates across all digital platforms, while analyzing the collected data(s). On average, our campaigns achieved a daily reach of over 40K. Such metrics show the real-time performance of our campaigns.
- Feedback Mechanisms: By working closely with our client, we regularly gathered their feedback on campaign performance and identified areas for improvement. Their insights helped us redefine our strategies from time to time, ensuring the campaigns aligned with their goals and delivered their desired results.
Result
The establishment of a significant digital presence by WBSAPCS is yielding impressive results, as evidenced by a 65% increase in post-engagement within a remarkably short timeframe. This enhancement is being achieved through the visually appealing and highly informative content shared across all social media channels.
Community engagement is also improving significantly, with offline events attracting a substantial number of attendees and social media posts consistently achieving high engagement metrics, including likes, shares, and comments. Adding to this, proactive participation is also being observed, highlighted by a notable increase in inquiries regarding HIV testing and attendance at health check-up drives, indicating a positive change in awareness driven by the organization’s awareness efforts.
